Who Cares About Your Ideas and Opinions? We Do!
We all have opinions about what's wrong in the world. Sometimes we even have ideas about how to make things better. Most of the time, we talk about these things among friends and family and colleagues, but not much happens as a result of our discussions. Here are three ways to make something good happen by expressing yourself.
If you care about the welfare of older adults in our community and are willing to discuss your thoughts about what's working and what could be improved, the West Central Florida Area Agency on Aging is holding two Public Hearings to gather your comments on how services will be funded in the upcoming year. Residents of Hillsborough, Manatee, Polk, Highlands and Hardee Counties are invited to attend either of two public hearings:
Monday, September 13, 2010
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Lakeland Public Library 100 Lake Morton Dr. Lakeland, FL 33801
Tuesday, September 14, 2010 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM The Children's Board of Hillsborough County 1002 East Palm Avenue Tampa, FL 33605
RSVP here or, if you cannot attend either hearing but would like to voice your opinion, please click here and complete our on-line survey.
If you live in Hillsborough County, you also have the opportunity to participate in a Community Health Survey being conducted by the Hillsborough County Health Department. The survey takes about 10-15 minutes to complete and your feedback helps our local public health system identify ways to improve the health and quality of life in Hillsborough County. Click here to participate in this survey before September 1st.
On a lighter note, we also care about the type of music you like. That's right, WCFAAA's annual gala and awards luncheon may not happen until February 1st, but the planning has already begun. What type of musical entertainment would you most enjoy at next year's event? Your choices are a Hollywood Musical Review, featuring favorite hit songs from memorable movies, past and present; a Swing Dance Soirée, including songs that will make you tap your feet and maybe even get up and dance, or a Fifties Sock Hop, where we'll Be Bop to Do Wop and Rock Around the Clock! Visit our AgingFlorida.com web site and look for the Save the Date block to cast your entertainment vote.
We really do care what you think!

Prescription Drug Costs Got you Down?
With health care costs on the rise, Extra Help and Medicare Savings Programs offer help where it is needed most...in the wallet!
More than 90,000 Medicare beneficiaries in Florida may be eligible for Extra Help. For those who qualify, this program will help pay prescription drug costs for beneficiaries enrolled in a Medicare Part D plan. This can include drug plan premiums, deductibles, and co-pays. Extra Help may save you up to $3,900 per year! Many people may also be eligible for help paying their Medicare Part B premiums.
Can you or someone you know use some Extra Help?
Click here to find a Medicare Savings and Enrollment Event near you where beneficiaries can learn more about the Medicare Savings Programs and receive assistance in filling out the applications.
If your church, business or community center would like to host a Medicare Savings event, or for more information please call Patricia at 813-676-5609.

Team Up to End Alzheimer's
Most of either know someone or have lost a loved one to Alzheimer's Disease. Right now, more than 5 million Americans are living with this fatal, progressive disease. You may feel helpless when it comes to Alzheimer's, but there is something you can do to help raise funds to end this dreadful disease.
The Florida Culf Coast Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association is holding several Memory Walks throughout the Tampa Bay area this fall. Now is the time to get a team of friends or co-workers to walk together to help raise funds and awareness about Alzheimer's Disease.
The Alzheimer's Association can walk you through the process of putting a team together and help you to come up with some creative ways to raise funds. Click here to find out more about a walk that's happening in your community.
Your steps will help to get us closer to a cure!
