E-Newsletter Gives You A Chance to Be Published:
West Central Florida Area Agency On Aging's Just-launched E-Newsletter Seeks Your Submissions

TAMPA, Florida - August, 2006 - The Connection, West Central Florida Area Agency on Aging's e-newsletter will begin publishing a twice-monthly issue in October 2006 to coincide with the launch of their new website. The first edition was published in May of 2006 and featured an article about the winners of the Silver Stars Gala singing competition. "People began to ask us when the next edition would be coming out and we realized that this was an opportunity to connect with the community and involve more people in our mission to serve seniors." said Maureen Kelly, Executive Director of the agency.

The new edition has been reformatted and will contain information that will be useful to all age groups. The name was chosen because the newsletter will act as a bridge between generations, effectively connecting them online. "Finding relevant content is the biggest challenge, so we designed it to allow input from outside of our agency," said Kelly. One section will be titled "When I Was Your Age" and will give seniors a chance to write stories about what it was like to be 10, 12, or 16 when they were growing up. Kelly said she hopes this will give today's kids some insight into senior citizens and they'll realize that there is a connection.

The new e-newsletter will have sections on health, wealth, gardening tips, and contests. "We hope to get the entire community involved with articles written by seniors, parents, and children." said Kelly. The address for the e-newsletter is www.agingflorida.com.

Our 25th Anniversary Gift - A New Website For Senior Citizens
Area Agency On Aging launches new website designed for easier use by seniors, their caregivers and service providers

TAMPA, Florida - August, 2006 - The West Central Florida Area Agency on Aging will officially launch their new website on September 22, 2006. The new website was a collaborative effort involving the entire agency staff. MIS Director, Frank Wagoner designed the site with help from Systems Specialist, Jeff Pacheco. The site is designed for ease of use by people outside of the agency. It becomes a one-stop clearing house for senior citizens or their families to find the services that are available in their immediate area. If someone lives in another state and has an elder relative in this area, this will give them a way to locate the services that are available to their loved one.

According to Maureen Kelly, Executive Director of the agency, "More seniors are using the internet as a way to locate services that they need. We decided to update our website to coincide with our 25th Anniversary." The new site is easier to navigate and will have features that are more in tune with today's senior lifestyle. Proactive companies are beginning to offer elder-care benefits to retain valuable employees. "We can help them and this new website is just one of the ways to do it." said Kelly.

The new site has links to government agencies, Medicare/Medicaid information as well as information for volunteers and donors. There is also a link to sign up for "The Connection", the agency's semi-monthly newsletter. Ms. Kelly said she was impressed with the thought and creativity of her staff, many of whom worked on this project on their own time.

You can see the new website at www.agingflorida.com. The Area Agency on Aging welcomes the public's input and suggestions.
